If your client has Vendor Collaboration features enabled and you have been assigned the relevant role, you can see matter-specific updates posted by your client and can add your own notes/responses.
To check or add status updates for a matter:
1. Go to Clients from the left-side navigation bar and select the client.
2. Go to Matters from the left and click on the relevant matter.
3. Go to the Updates tab on the far right.
NOTE: If you do not see this tab, it means that: 1) your client is not currently using this functionality, or 2) you have not yet been been assigned the relevant matter update role. Please contact a CounselGO Admin from your firm for assistance.
4. View the status updates posted by your client's legal team, if applicable.
5. Type your update in the text field at the bottom of the tab and click Submit. There is a 5,000-character limit for the text that can be entered for each update.
Once submitted, it will appear at the top of the tab and will be visible to your client in SimpleLegal. You will see any responses or additional updates from your client displayed in this tab. Any updates added by other users from your firm with the Matter Updates role will also be visible to you and the client.
If an update is added from SimpleLegal, CounselGO users with the Matter Update role and access to the associated matter will receive an email notification so that the update can be reviewed and responded to.
Editing or Removing Matter Updates
All notes or comments added to this tab will automatically be visible to your client in SimpleLegal. If you need to edit or remove a comment you added, click on the ... (more) option to the far right of the comment and select Delete.
If edits are made to an update, it will display (Edited) after the date and time:
Your client in SimpleLegal will also be notified via email if an update is made to an existing update from CounselGO by any users in your firm. Similarly, you will also receive an email if an update previously shared with you from SimpleLegal is edited.
Filtering Matter Updates
You can use the Date filter located at the top of the Updates tab to narrow the comments shown.
Matter Updates on Closed Matters
Once a matter is closed by the client, you will be able to view the existing updates in the record, but you will not be able to add, edit, or delete any of the updates.
